Why Even the Strongest People Need Someone in Their Corner

Justine Carey shares what her first boxing match taught her about support, and why investing in the right coach can change your life and business.

I was raised with a simple rule: if you can do it yourself, don't pay someone else to do it.

For a lot of things, that rule served me well. Changing a tap. Checking the oil in the car. Figuring it out, rolling up my sleeves and getting it done.

Think about it. We hire a cleaner to take some pressure off at home. We hire staff in our businesses because we know we can't do it all. We pay a mechanic, an accountant, a physio, all without a second thought.

But over the years, I've learnt something that rule never accounted for.

We can't be an expert in everything.

We already know we need help, just not everywhere

So why is it that when it comes to our own personal or professional growth, the very thing that affects everything else, we still believe we should do it on our own?

The fight that changed how I do things

When I signed up for my very first boxing match, something shifted.

I didn't want to stuff it up. I figured I'd only do this once, and I wanted to do it well. Honestly? I wanted to win. But I knew I didn't know enough.

So I built my team.

A boxing coach to train me, tell me when I wasn't hitting the mark or when my technique was off, and guide how I trained based on what had worked for others before me.

A nutritionist to help with my food, recovery and energy levels. A strict part of boxing is staying within a 4 kg weight range while building speed and stamina, and that's not something you guess your way through.

A mindset coach who helped me with visualisation, self image and stepping fully into the athlete and winner I was destined to become.

I couldn't have done it without them.

They'd been there before. They'd done it themselves. They could see what I couldn't. They pushed me harder than I would have pushed myself, and they made me dig deeper when I wanted to ease off. I knew I was in good hands.

What the right support actually does

The right support points out the bits you can't see. It holds you to the standard you've set for yourself. It gets you there faster, and it gets you there well, with energy, ease and a deep sense of knowing.

That's the difference between getting through something and truly excelling at it.

Now I get to be that person for you

I've been in some pretty low places in the past. I've also run a high-impact wedding business for over 20 years. I was very good at juggling, hiding how I really felt, people pleasing and doing everything for everyone else.

I know what pressure, stress and expectation feel like. And I know what outdated programmes running quietly under the surface can do to your sleep, your health, your relationships and your business.

Whatever you're facing, personal or professional, this is where I come in.

Together, we look at the subconscious programmes running beneath the surface and identify the ones that are no longer serving you or where you want to go. We release the old negative emotions keeping you stuck in the past. Then we upgrade those systems, so you can achieve your goals with ease, clarity and confidence.

And how good is that!
